The terrifying UFO

After almost a year of sometimes frantic crocheting this top is finally finished - hooray! I started late last year as a special Birthday present for my sister and I had high hopes that I would have it finished within the month, how wrong was I!

Since the weather has become sunny again I decided it was time to knuckle down and get the top finished - and to give me the push I needed to actually do it I made myself promise not to start any more projects until it was finished.

I'm very happy with how this top has turned out, even without using a dressform (as recommended in the pattern) most of the motifs seem to have joined together without much warping (also helped with a good ironing yesterday). The pattern is from the CrochetMe website written by Katy Westcott ( but this should only be attempted if you really do have oodles of spare time!

To reward myself for finally finishing I also made up this little guy from the pattern on Roman Sock ( and I'm going to be giving away one of these cute little guys on my blog.

  1. That top is AWESOME!!!
Might have to have a go at something similar myself.....

  2. Oh, Jessica! The top is more than lovely! You did beautiful work -- your sister will looooove it!

And the elephant is so, so cute!

  3. that is one of the coolest ideas I've seen in a while. I just checked out the link and it looks like a great pattern and instructions. I think you should post a picture of your sister wearing it. Would love to see what it looks like on! Well done

  4. Thanks for all the lovely comments - I'm very glad you like the top, but for those of you tempted to have a go then I must warn you that it took me approx 60 hours of work to make the thing and though I think it looks lovely it if I could start over I would probably make something else!

Best of luck to those of you crazy crocheters who are going to have a go!
