Picasso's Blue Period

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pablo Picasso, The Old Guitarist, 1903, Art Institute of Chicago

The Blue Period (Spanish: PerĂodo Azul) is a term used to define the works produced by Spanish painter Pablo Picasso between 1901 and 1904 when he painted essentially monochromatic paintings in shades of blue and blue-green, only occasionally warmed by other colors. These somber works, inspired by Spain and painted in Barcelona and Paris, are now some of his most popular works, although he had difficulty selling them at the time.

Serendipity Crochet Granny Square Blanket

Photographs of my newest creation, I do have to say I love the colours. I’d recently had a customer who wasn’t wholly clear on the colour scheme for her blanket. I decided to make up a sample incorporating some of the colours she wanted. Ultimately she decided she wanted a purple and grey ripple blanket. I decided to continue with these colours I had put together and ended up with ‘Serendipity’.

Huge Crochet Granny Square Blanket 70 x 70

Here are a couple of photographs of a huge granny square blanket I completed earlier this week for a customer. Unfortunately the light levels weren’t great and so the photos do not do the actual colours full justice. The colours included; mustard, grey, lime, ivory, plum, raspberry & navy.

Crochet Flowers for The BIg Knit

I have taken part in The Big Knit for quite a few years and the little hats go on top of Innocent Juices drink bottles and when they are sold a percentage of the money goes to Age UK
This year my Mum wanted to take part so she knitted the little hats and I had the fun of sitting down and making 19 little flowers to decorate the front. I am really pleased with how these turned out and I used a simple little tutorial on YouTube created by The Making Spot.  I can crochet flowers but it was getting the flower the right size, in proportion and a good shape and this tutorial fitted the bill.  I loved making these cheerful little flowers and I can definitely see more uses for them.

Pop over to The Big Knit and see what it is all about.  if you like knitting there are more challenging patterns to knit and there is a cute crochet pattern as well.  It is also possible to donate online as well if you wish to.
Take care all.

Kwazii Cat Octonaut Hat

Hello everyone I've started crocheting again here in Germany. At the moment my daughter is obsessed with the Octonauts and so I've made her a Kwazii Cat hat, her favourite character from the series.
Here's a pic of the character himself.
I've never made something up without a patterns so it's been an interesting crochet adventure. Please don't ask for a pattern because I have no idea how I managed to make this. Maybe one day I'll learn how to write a pattern.

After I posted it on facebook a friend commissioned one for her daughter who also loves Octonauts. This is how that one turned out.

I like this one better and I'm thinking of undoing my daughters and adding the better looking hat and ears.

Getting Ready for Christmas, Pepa Pig Beanie

When you are a crafter especially a crocheter Christmas preparations seem to start very early. It seems you can never have enough time to make all the handmade gifts you have planned. This year I am planing to make beanies for my nephews and nieces.  I have asked them all what their favourite cartoon character in  order to know what kind of novelty hat I will make them. One of them loves Pepa pig so I've made this beanie below.

It's pretty cute and funny at the same time because of the snout but I did have lots of fun making it. Wish I knew how to write a pattern then I could make it again or share it with others.

The next challenge I have is a Fireman Sam helmet/ beanie. Wish me luck!

Free Flower Patttern E-book

I know it's almost autumn, but still I think there are so many of you who love to crochet flowers all year round. I've designed some flower patterns over the last few years, and most of them are somewhere on my blog. To make it easier, I made a free to download PDF e-book, so you have all flower patterns in just one document. I hope you like it! The US version can be downloaded here. There is a Dutch version as well, that can be downloaded here. I hope you'll enjoy it!

A very long time

It's been a very long time since I've posted but I have been thinking about this blog a lot. I feel bad that I haven't given it any time for such a LONG time. To be honest I haven't been crocheting much at all up until recently. I have sent out some invitations to people who want to join recently and I have noticed that there are not that many people adding posts anymore. What do people want to do about that? Are there any of you out there that have any ideas on how to rejuvenated this blog? A way that we can work out who is still interested in being a coauthor and who is no longer interested?

I am open to suggestions so please leave comments.

Crochet meets Loom Bands

My daughter is in to the Loom Band craze and has used You tube in a positive way to learn a new skill/craft and how to follow visual instructions.  After making some pencil covers she spotted my crochet hook and look what she made for me!  Slushy mummy moment.
Works so well and is nice to hold that since then I have asked her to make another for my favourite hook.
A different take on using pencil grips on your hooks.
A bit more info here.
My daughter's blog features a few more of her creations here.http://www.themousecottagecrafts.blogspot.co.uk/
She know wants to learn crochet!
