The Butterfly Project

Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all busy, busy, busy with crochet projects and preparing for the Christmas swap. I'm unsure how many of you already know about the butterfly project but thought I might post it here in case you are interested.

1,500,000 children perished in the holocaust and now the Houston Holocaust Museum is remembering and honouring them.

In an effort to remember them, Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies. The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2012, for all to remember.

I have written a crochet pattern for a butterfly and you can find it here http://goodtimesithinkso.blogspot.com/2009/09/holocaust-butterfly-pattern-crochet.htm

The butterflies don't have to be crocheted but I figured it's something we are all interested in. You can visit the info page at the museums website here http://www.hmh.org/minisite/butterfly/

I hope that some of you may be inspired enough to create your own butterfly.

Have a great day and happy hooking.

  1. Very nice and a great idea! I tried going to the link you posted for getting the pattern, but I keep getting a "page not found" message from Blogger. Can I find the pattern elsewhere?

  2. I hadn't heard about this. How awesome and a great way to use some scraps -- especially the bright colored ones. Thanks!
