Ok maybe I have too much time on my hands but today I was thinking 'What is the world's largest crochet blanket?' and much to my surprise I found the answer on Google. Here's an extract from the article...
Val Stone, a Devon, UK,-based pensioner has made the world's largest crocheted blanket and plans to sell it to raise money for a cancer fund. Stone, a leukaemia patient, has spent 11 years making the blanket, which is larger than a tennis court. The blanket measures about 24 metres by 8 metres when stretched out and weighs about 90 kilograms.
The blanket, which is recognised by Guinness World Records, is a combination of squares, all different from each other. "Every square is different. No-one has been able to spot two of the same yet," she was quoted as saying.
You can read the rest of the article here. I don't know about you guys but I want to see a photo of it, (why is there no photo?) an afghan as large as a tennis court? WOW! And can you imagine all the ends and having to sew them in ahhhhhh!
The final question I have is who's interested in making an afghan that covers a whole 2 tennis courts???? hehehehehe. If anyone can we girls can! hehehehehe.
One project for 11 years! Oh no! I would die but damn that is commitment!

Nice blog!! very interesting.I prefer a warm and smooth blanket because i love to feel comfortable in my bed, that is why is very important the quality of the blanket all the time. I always chose the better ones when by husband buy viagra and decided to pass a great time with me.
ReplyDeleteI am currently working on a blanket that has taken me 3 years so far to make. it takes up my whole living room. But I don't plan to get as big as that. I am hoping to be done with it in a month or two. My husband and I decided to count the stitches that I have done so far and it comes to 30780 and counting. We thought we would figure out what the world record was. Mine isn't close and I think after reading how big it is I don't want it to be. That takes too long and I am fed up with looking at the same color. :o)
ReplyDeleteand can't believe this!!! it's true I did the search, and result that all the data you put here is totally true.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe how large this blanket is!
ReplyDeleteI can believe it I made a 7' by 7' for my husband in a week. What I can't believe is how long it took to make one that big... Sounds like a challenge to me :)
