crochet patterns :: cotton cloths

About a year ago I kicked the paper towel habit. All the spills, messes, and clean-ups that happen everyday no longer end up in the trash (and landfill), but in the sink or laundry basket for a quick wash and reuse. I've made cleaning cloths from various materials (mostly by cutting up a couple of thrift store towels and zig-zagging the edges) but myfavorite ones are knitted or crocheted from simple cotton yarn.

Granny Square Pattern

Today I've written down the pattern of the granny squares I'm making right now. It's on my blog in Dutch and English. If anyone finishes a square of this pattern, please send it to me and I'll post it on my blog!

Striped Cotton Dishtowel & Dishcloth Duo

I recently crocheted this duo for a Ravelry swap.

The patterns for these are not meant to be matching sets,

but I had enough cotton to make both of them

and put them together as a set.

The Striped Cotton Dishtowel pattern has a finished edge using

a reverse single crochet stitch, giving it a real nice and unique edging.

I used the Lion Brand kitchen cotton for these two projects.

Smart Car Cozy

Hi There!  I was over at the craftzine blog and came upon this picture.  I wanted to share it will all the "granny" lovers out there in the for the love of crochet along land.  This photo belongs to this flickr person Start The Day .  It was taken in May 2010 in Rome, Italy.

While I don't like the Smart Car for Los Angeles freeways; I don't think they're big enough to be safe, I admire whoever created this cozy.  It might protect the paint and help you by standing out in the mall parking lot if you forget where you parked, it would sure create a wind drag at high speeds and you'd use more gasoline and then where would the savings be??  Well they probably don't go too fast in Italy unless you owned a high end sports car.  Fun none the less.  Hope you are finding time to work on your projects inside where the ac is running and your iced tea refills itself!

My first sucessful Chevron Crochet

Hi all,
I hope all the warm weather and weeds in the garden hasn't destracted you from your crochet projects. I thought I would post a picture of a dolls blanket I have just finished for my cousin. It's my first sucessful chevron project that actually has straight edges rather than stepped ones previously completed. I am re-learning stitches as it's been a while since i did any crochet or knitting and I am really enjoying it. I find it so calming.
